As well as working with the country’s leading professional ensembles Phillip Faber (b. 1984) is known throughout the country as former host of the daily Fællessang broadcasts and current shows like The Classical Music Quiz on Danish state television.

With a background in theatre and music Phillip studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen and at the Royal Swedish Academy of Music in Stockholm as a composer and conductor.

As a conductor he moves between the orchestral and the vocal, as a composer between the Nordic simplicity and the complex, and as a host between the humorous and the informative.

Conductor

He is currently guest conducting COPENHAGEN PHIL, AARHUS SYMPHONY orchestra, AALBORG SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA, odense symphony orchestra, the Danish philharmonic orchestra and the DANISH NATIONAL VOCAL ENSEMBLE.

In recent years, he has conducted concerts and productions with The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra and Ars Nova Copenhagen, as well as with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, the Danish National Chamber Orchestra, and the Danish National Concert Choir.

From 2013-2023 Phillip was chief conductor of the DANISH NATIONAL GIRLS' CHOIR and had a marked effect on the ensemble’s sound and expression as well as on its standing in national life.

repertoire

He can currently be heard on the podium conducting orchestral works by composers such as Carl nielsen, wagner, DEBUSSY, RAVEL and BEETHOVEN,

a cappella repertoire by composers such as Praetorius, Poulenc, Veljo Tormis and Bo Holten, as well as opera excerpts from, among others, Puccini’s La Bohème and Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro and The Magic Flute.

Previously he has premiered and first recorded works by contemporary composers such as Line tjørnhøj, Lil lacy, Louise Alenius and Bent sørensen, and this season he will premiere new works by Peter Navarro-Alonso and Veronika Voetmann.

HONORS

Phillip Faber has received Arne Hammelboe's MEMORIAL GRANT by the Danish Orchestra Association, the HONORARY PRIZE by the Danish broadcasting association KLF,

the Danish Broadcasting Corporation’s LANGUAGE AWARD, the N.F.S. GRUNDTVIG PRIZE

Phillip Faber has received Arne Hammelboe's MEMORIAL GRANT by the Danish Orchestra Association, the Danish Broadcasting Corporation’s LANGUAGE AWARD,

and the HONORARY PRIZE by the DANISH SOLOISTS’ SOCIETY in addition to several television awards for his efforts in promoting classical music on Danish television.

In 2022 he was KNIGHTED by the Queen of Denmark.

Composer

Phillip Faber's works are published by Edition Wilhelm Hansen, a part of Wise Music Group.

Current commissions include a profile album of vocal music to be released in 2026, and the score for a ballet at the Royal Danish Theatre, set to premiere in 2026.

Recent works include Little Life for wind quintet, written for the Carl Nielsen Quintet, and the ballet Klods-Hans, composed for Tivoli.

In 2024, Phillip Faber was nominated for the Carl Prize 2024 for his work Hvis nu lyset (If then the light) in the category Classical Composer of the Year – Small Ensemble.

WoRKS

In addition to a large production of vocal music, he has written works such as MADRIGAL BRISÉ for chamber ensemble, the orchestral work SHATTERED SONG commissioned by the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra and BRORSON REQUIEM commissioned by Ribe Cathedral.

For film and stage he has written the children's opera FRIDOLIN for Den Rullende Opera, music for the Copenhagen Dox documentary THE SPACE BETWEEN US, as well as music for several theater productions including at the Betty Nansen Theatre.

He has also written the score and title music for the Danish TV series GRÆNSELAND.
