As well as working with the country’s leading professional ensembles Phillip Faber (b. 1984) is known throughout the country as former host of the daily Fællessang broadcasts and current shows like The Classical Music Quiz on Danish state television.

With a background in theatre and music Phillip studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen and at the Royal Swedish Academy of Music in Stockholm as a composer and conductor.

As a conductor he moves between the newly written and the classical, as a composer between the Nordic simplicity and the complex, and as a host between the humorous and the artistic.

Conductor

He is recurring guest conductor of the DANISH NATIONAL VOCAL ENSEMBLE, AALBORG SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA and for the ODENSE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA.

In the recent years he has also conducted concerts and productions with the DANISH NATIONAL SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA, DANISH CHAMBER ORCHESTRA and DANISH NATIONAL CONCERT CHOIR.

From 2013-2023 Phillip was chief conductor of the DANISH NATIONAL GIRLS' CHOIR and had a marked effect on the ensemble’s sound and expression as well as on its standing in national life.

In the coming seasons Phillip Faber will be conducting Haydn's The Creation with copenhagen phil, concerts with SOUTH DENMARK PHILHARMONIC, i.a. Fauré's Requiem,

concerts with the DANISH NATIONAL VOCAL ENSEMBLE, i.a.the ensemble's summer concerts and their traditional Christmas concerts,

and concerts with aalborg symphony orchestra, aarhus symphony orchestra, midtvest symphony orchestra, odense symphony orchestra and tivoli cph Phil.

HONORS

Phillip Faber has received Arne Hammelboe's MEMORIAL GRANT by the Danish Orchestra Association, the Danish Broadcasting Corporation’s LANGUAGE AWARD,

Phillip Faber has received Arne Hammelboe's MEMORIAL GRANT by the Danish Orchestra Association, the Danish Broadcasting Corporation’s LANGUAGE AWARD,

the N.F.S. GRUNDTVIG PRIZE and the HONORARY PRIZE of the DANISH SOLOISTS’S SOCIETY in addition to several television awards for his efforts in promoting classical music on Danish television.

In 2022, he received the HONORARY PRIZE by the Danish broadcasting association KLF and was KNIGHTED by the Queen of Denmark.

Composer

Phillip Faber's works are published by Edition Wilhelm Hansen, a part of Wise Music Group.

His recent works include I WRITE LIKE WIND with lyrics by Inger Christensen and IF THEN THE LIGHT set to lyrics by Helene Johanne Christensen commissioned by the Danish National Girls' Choir,

Hey, what's up, little butterfly friend for a cappella choir commissioned by the Danish National Vocal Ensemble and MIN LØGN I DIT ANSIGT (My lie on your face) for voice and piano set to texts by Danish author and poet Olga Ravn.

In addition to a large production of vocal music, he has written works such as MADRIGAL BRISÉ for chamber ensemble, the orchestral work SHATTERED SONG commissioned by the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra and BRORSON REQUIEM commissioned by Ribe Cathedral.

I denne bog deler komponisten og dirigenten Phillip Faber sin glæde ved den danske sang og øser af sin viden om emnet.

Han fortæller i bogen om de danske sange, hvad sang betyder for os, hvad der gør en sang god, melodiopbygning, tekster, sanghistorie og om alt det, som sang gør ved os.

Desuden afslører han 20 af sine yndlingssange og tager læseren med på spændende og nørdede ture rundt i de udvalgte melodier og tekster, der samtidig er nogle af de mest elskede sange herhjemme. I bogen bringes tekst og melodi på de udvalgte sange, så det er en bog, der både kan læses og synges.

Film and STAGE

For film and stage he has written the children's opera FRIDOLIN for Den Rullende Opera, music for the Copenhagen Dox documentary THE SPACE BETWEEN US, as well as music for several theater productions including at the Betty Nansen Theatre.

He has also written the score and title music for the Danish TV series GRÆNSELAND.
